Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy

Overview

Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy for consultation

East Lothian Council is committed to providing equality of opportunity to all its employees and eliminating discrimination at the workplace. In addition, the Council recognises the need to provide a working environment where all employees are treated with dignity and respect as individuals. Whilst there is an existing Prevention of Harassment Policy already in place, with regard to sexual harassment specifically, new legislation was introduced in April 2024 placing a responsibility on all employers to actively prevent sexual harassment by colleagues and third parties. This new draft policy outlines East Lothian’s position on the prevention of sexual harassment, and the processes to be followed and support available where issues arise. Ultimately our aim is to create a working environment which is supportive, free from discrimination, and which sets out clear standards of expected performance and behaviour.

This consultation seeks the views of ELC employees in relation to the draft Prevention of Sexual Harassment policy.
