The Scottish Government remains committed to developing a high quality flexible system of early learning and childcare which is affordable and accessible for all children and families. The aim is to improve outcomes for all children, especially those who are most disadvantaged and vulnerable, and to support parents to work, train or study, especially those who need routes into sustainable employment and out of poverty.

The Scottish Government is committed to planning a further increase in the provision of funded early learning and childcare to 1140 flexible hours per year by 2020, for all 3 and 4 year olds, and eligible 2 year olds.

Why your views matter

The Scottish Government is conducting a parent survey to explore how parents would wish to use the increase in early learning and childcare hours.
