King's Meadow Primary School and Haddington Infant School - Planning for the Future

Overview

East Lothian Council is carrying out a consultation to gather views on whether to merge King's Meadow Primary School and Haddington Infant School.

Three possible options are being looked at:

1. The status quo - both schools remain separate with their own Head Teachers, management structures, policies and development plans, etc

2. The schools remain separate as described above but with a shared Head Teacher leading and managing both schools.

3. Both schools become one school under a new name with one Head Teacher, management structure, policies and development plan, etc

Consultation has already taken place with Parent Councils and teachers - the Council is now keen to find out what parents and carers think.

A public meeting took place on the 19th November 2012. Don Ledingham (Executive Director of Services for People) set out the educational reasons for considering merging the schools and answered questions from the audience.

Two Head Teachers were also invited along to answer questions - a Head Teacher of a joint campus school in East Lothian and a shared Head Teacher who looks after two seperate East Lothian primaries.

Why your views matter

The Council wants to gather the views of parents and carers on whether the two schools should remain separate or become merged.

What happens next

A ballot of all Kings Meadow and Haddington Infants parents will take place following the public meeting.

If a majority of parents are in favour of the change further consultation will take place with Parent Council about the next steps.

If the majority of parents are against any change the matter will be considered closed and the schools will remain as they are.
