East Lothian Local Development Plan 2018 Proposed Supplementary Planning Guidance - Cultural Heritage and the Built Environment
Overview
East Lothian Council, at its meeting on 29th May 2018, approved the East Lothian Local Development Plan 2018 (ELLDP 2018) for adoption. The Council has now submitted the ELLDP 2018 to Scottish Ministers stating our intention to adopt the plan for the area. The ELLDP 2018 comprises a development strategy for the future development of East Lothian to 2024 and beyond, a detailed policy framework for guiding development, and proposals maps. It sets out where new development should and should not occur, including new housing, education, economic and retail development, new transport links, and other infrastructure.
This consultation is on the proposed Cultural Heritage and the Built Environment Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG), part of a range of documents that would (if approved) support the Cultural Heritage section of the ELLDP 2018 during its operation (see relevant document links below).
The supplementary planning guidance covers the submission of planning applications within designated conservation areas along with external wall treatment, external painting, shop fronts, advertisements, external security, replacement windows and trees in conservation areas. It applies to proposed development affecting listed buildings, within conservation areas and elsewhere within the built environment as appropriate. It also includes the Conservation Area Character Statements for each designated conservation area. Much of this had previously been included within policies in the current adopted East Lothian Local Plan 2008 and has been updated as necessary. The more comprehensive Conservation Area Character Statement for Inveresk, approved in 2011, has been updated to include references to the ELLDP 2018 and is also included within the supplementary planning guidance.
