Visitor Levy Engagement Survey
Overview
East Lothian Council is beginning an early engagement process with local businesses, organisations, residents, and visitors to explore the potential introduction of a Visitor Levy in East Lothian, following the passing of the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Act 2024.
This is an initial, exploratory stage — no decisions have been made — and the feedback gathered will help shape any future proposals, which would be reported to East Lothian’s Councillors in early 2026.
Independent researchers 56 Degree Insight will be leading the engagement on the Council’s behalf. Businesses in our database have received an invitation to take part in a short survey, open until the end of November 2025. The survey seeks views on:
- Support for a Visitor Levy in principle
- How a levy could be designed and collected
- How funds could be reinvested to benefit communities, visitors, and the local economy
We greatly value the insight and perspective of anyone interested in the Visitor Levy.
To ensure as many interested stakeholders as possible can have their say, the survey is now live and publicly available. Information on the Visitor Levy in Scotland can be found here: Visitor Levy Information for Industry
East Lothian Council will also be sharing information across its social media platforms and other media outlets.
