East Lothian Local Development Plan 2018 Proposed Supplementary Planning Guidance - Green Network Strategy

Closed 21 Dec 2018

Opened 9 Nov 2018

The East Lothian Local Development Plan 2018 (ELLDP) has been adopted by the Council and replaces the East Lothian Local Plan 2008 with regards all planning matters in the area.  The ELLDP 2018 comprises a development strategy for the future development of East Lothian to 2024 and beyond, a detailed policy framework for guiding development, and proposals maps. It sets out where new development should and should not occur, including new housing, education, economic and retail development, new transport links, and other infrastructure. It sets out the detailed policies used to determine planning applications.

Supplementary Planning Guidance expands upon existing policies and proposals and is used to support the content of the Local Development Plan 2018. It is particularly important when extensive detail is required for a specific area.  This allows the Local Development Plan 2018 to focus on the overall spatial strategy and the key policies and proposals.  Supplementary Planning Guidance is subject to extensive consultation and formal adoption procedures which allows it to form part of the Local Development Plan 2018 with greater weight than previously.

East Lothian lies within the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) area. The CSGN seeks a step change to the landscape of Central Scotland, with a vision that: "By 2050, Central Scotland has been transformed into the place where the environment adds value to the economy and where people's lives are enriched by its quality."

This consultation is on the proposed Green Network Strategy Supplementary Planning Guidance, prepared in support of the Green Network policies of the Local Development Plan 2018. The SPG sets out the objectives of the green network in East Lothian, and how we are going to achieve them. It also identifies green network priorities for implementation.
