SESplan Main Issues Report 2

Overview

The South East Scotland Strategic Development Planning Authority, SESplan, is a partnership of six member authorities including Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, Fife, Scottish Borders and West Lothian, working together on strategic development planning matters.

SESplan's key role is to prepare and maintain an up to date Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for the South East Scotland area. This process involves engaging key stakeholders and the wider community. The first SDP was approved by Scottish Ministers on 27 June 2013.

SESplan is currently preparing the next Strategic Development Plan, which will replace the current plan in 2017. The next stage in this process is the Main Issues Report consultation.

The Main issues Report is divided into a number of themes including the Spatial Strategy, A Place to do Business, A Place for Communities, A Better Connected Place and Delivery. Each theme covers issues such as the strategy for growth, the economy, the number of houses needed, infrastructure and the environment.

SESplan will be running consultation events across the SESplan area, including three in East Lothian:

• Thurs 30 July Public Drop-In 3-7pm: Town House, Haddington
• Tues 4 Aug Community Councils 6.30-8.30pm: Town House, Haddington (registration required)
• Weds 5 Aug Public Drop-In 3-7pm: Brunton Hall, Musselburgh
   

Why your views matter

The Main Issues Report is the first stage in preparing a new Strategic Development Plan for the South East Scotland City Region. The Main Issues Report is a planning consultation document and is the principal opportunity for everyone to give their views on how the region should develop over the next 20 years.

What happens next

After the consultation closes SESplan will review the comments and take these into consideration when preparing the Proposed Strategic Development Plan. The Proposed Plan will be published in Summer 2016. This will present SESplan's settled view on how the city region should grow over the period 2017-37.
