The Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 makes provision for regulating the sale of alcohol and for regulating licensed premises and other premises where alcohol is sold.

Scottish Licensing Boards are required to publish a statement of their policy with respect to carrying out their functions under the Act every 3 years. 

The East Lothian Licensing Board has produced a Draft Statement of Licensing Policy for 2013-2016 and is keen to gather feedback from all interested parties. You can view the Draft Statement under 'Related Documents' below.

Why We Are Consulting

The Board is keen to gather the views of interested parties, including members of the public.

One of the matters the Board is keen to consult on is the issue of 'overprovision'. A statement has been produced identifying areas where the Board believes there to be too many licensed premises (both shops with licenses to sell alcohol and licensed bars, clubs, restaurants and other premises) - where this is the case new applications for licenses will be rejected. Areas have been identified by analysing police and health statistics - these statistics can be viewed under 'Related Documents' below.

Feedback is also invited in relation to current licensing hours, and on any other matters covered by the Draft Statement.
