Results updated 7 May 2015

The results of the public consultation have raised the ongoing issues of proper maintenance and the lack of facilities at Fisherrow Harbour.

East Lothian Council has carried out essential repair work to the internal walls of the Harbour including filling in the holes and re-pointing. An inspection of the external wall showed it was fit for purpose. There is no other structural work planned at this time. The Council is aware of the issues with the handrails and ladders.

The results of the survey also showed support for the proposal from the Waterfront Group. This proposal is to fund a feasibility study for ideas to regenerate the Harbour area as a whole including the Harbour itself. Professional advice will be sought on the composition of the study and on any outcomes e.g. pontoon installation.

The public and Harbour users will be kept up-to-date with any developments.

Overview

Fisherrow Harbour is a key historical feature of Fisherrow and an asset to Musselburgh as a whole.

The Fisherrow Waterfront Group is working in partnership with East Lothian Council to investigate ideas to regenerate the Harbour and surrounding area. A number of proposals are being explored in discussions with various user groups at the Harbour.

Why your views matter

This survey has been designed to gather information on people’s current opinion of the Harbour. It will also form the basis for a wider feasibility study into possible improvements to the Harbour eg. installing Pontoons or extending the slipway.

The consultation is for all current Harbour Users and for members of the public to become involved in the future shaping of this historic harbour.
