St Andrew's Kirk Ports, North Berwick

Overview

St Andrew’s Kirk Ports is a picturesque ruin in the very heart of North Berwick. It sits in an attractive graveyard and is scheduled as a monument of national importance. East Lothian Council maintains the grounds, but has no funds to invest in works other than those that are essential for safety. The ruin is dilapidated and its condition is deteriorating. In 2011 the distinctive bell-shaped tower roof was removed for health and safety reasons, and the interior has since been fenced off. Action is needed to avoid this historic building being lost to our community.

NB Heritage – a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO: Charity no SC053977) led entirely by volunteers – is leading a campaign to secure a future for this important town-centre kirk and graveyard. We are working with East Lothian Council with the mutual aim of finding the most effective means of conserving the kirk and making it available as a community asset and visitor attraction, potentially to include its use as a space for occasional events.

This is your opportunity to help shape that future and we invite you to offer your thoughts in the following survey. This should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Please note that responses will be securely shared with NB Heritage for the purposes of analysis and reporting. Personal identifiers (including names and email addresses) and any comments that could lead to personal identification will be redacted before such data is shared. By participating in this survey you agree that your responses can be shared with NB Heritage. Please see the attached privacy notice if you would like more details.
