A number of issues were raised in relation to the making of aTraffic Regulation Order and the majority of these were addressed. Although some objectors opposed the introduction of coastal car parking charges on principle, it was agreed that the Council had already considered such objections during the first stage of the consultation. East Lothian Council subsequently agreed to the making of a Traffic Regulation Order governing the introduction of coastal car park charging.

An initial consultation exercise has already taken place to help inform the making of a draft Traffic Regulation Order in relation to coastal car parking (for information on the initial consultation and its findings please follow the link below).

In accordance with the Local Authorities (Traffic Regulation Orders) Procedures Regulations, the Council is advertising the making of an Order to charge for coastal car parking and to prohibit and restrict waiting, loading and unloading on various roads under the Roads Traffic Regulations Act 1984.

The Order's title is EAST LOTHIAN COUNCIL (OFF-STREET COASTAL PARKING PLACES (VARIOUS ROADS PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION ON WAITING, LOADING AND UNLOADING, ETC)) ORDER 2014

Why your views matter

We have already consulted the general public and other stakeholders about charging for coastal car parking. We are now required by law to consult on the making of the Order governing the introduction of coastal car park charging.
